Chester County in Top 10

In a recent article in Forbe’s magazine, Chester County and neighboring Montgomery County were rated in the top 10 places to raise a family in America.  Using a mixture of test scores, property taxes and crime rates, among other factors, Chester County was ranked #10 (Montgomery County was #9).  Here’s the detailed quote:

Located 30 miles west of Philadelphia, Chester County borders Montgomery County along the Schuylkill River. Chester’s median home price of $328,400 is a bit pricey, but families are rewarded with a high school graduation rate of 96% and average SAT scores of 1,075.

As someone who has lived in Chester County for most of his life and seen the changes, I would agree this is a great place to live.  The diversity of the area is just terrific, if I can toot Chester County’s horn a bit.  There’s abundant (maybe too many) places to shop, sports to participate, and parks to play at, with much of the land still undeveloped.  With more and more townships increasing there efforts to encourage development while keeping open space, this should continue.  If you want the Pocono mountains and locations “down the shore” they’re all within two hours, making even a day trip possible.  Also, Philadelphia and major sports and concerts are minutes away.  What more could you want?

What do (or don’t) you like about living in Chester County?  Feel free to leave a comment below.  I’d be interested to hear from you.
